Brief Biography
Una Marson, born on February 6, 1905, in St. Elizabeth Parish, Jamaica, was a Jamaican feminist, activist, and writer known for her poems, plays, and radio programs. She was a pioneer in many fields, including being the first woman editor of a Jamaican magazine, The Cosmopolitan, and the first Black woman employed by the BBC. Marson was also the first Black woman to have her play performed in the West End. She was a vocal advocate for women’s rights and Pan-Africanism, and her work addressed controversial issues such as racism, nationalism, social and economic welfare, and gender discrimination against women[1][2][3][4][5].
