Legacy
Haile Selassie I was the Emperor of Ethiopia from 1930 to 1974 and a prominent figure in African history[1]. Born near Harer, Ethiopia, Haile Selassie sought to modernize Ethiopia through various reforms, including establishing provincial schools, strengthening police forces, and outlawing feudal taxation[1]. He led the resistance against Italy’s invasion of Ethiopia in 1935 and was forced into exile until 1941[1]. Haile Selassie played a significant role in the establishment of the Organization of African Unity and was a symbol of a proud and independent Africa[1]. He is also worshipped as God incarnate among some followers of the Rastafari movement, which emerged in Jamaica during the 1930s[4].
