Legacy
Thomas Joseph Odhiambo Mboya was a Kenyan trade unionist, educator, Pan-Africanist, and independence activist who played a significant role in Kenya’s struggle for independence from British colonial rule[4]. Born in Kilima Mbogo, near Nairobi, Kenya, Mboya was a key figure in the Mau Mau rebellion and served as the general secretary of the Kenya Federation of Labour (KFL) from 1953 to 1963[3]. He was a founder-member of the Kenya African National Union (KANU) in 1960 and later served as the Minister for Economic Planning and Development from 1964 to 1969[3]. Mboya was an outspoken critic of government corruption and was assassinated in July 1969 at the age of 39[5].
