Lynette Woodard is a retired American basketball Hall of Fame player and former head women’s basketball coach at Winthrop University. She made history by becoming the first female member of the Harlem Globetrotters and was one of the oldest members in the newly formed American women’s professional basketball league, the WNBA, at age 38. Woodard won two state basketball titles while at Wichita North High School and went on to become a four-time All-American at KU. She began working as a stockbroker in New York City after college and later returned to KU as an assistant coach for the women’s basketball team. Woodard was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in September 2004 and the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in June 2005. She also received the 2015 WBCBL Women’s Professional Basketball “Trailblazer” Award. During her four years at KU, she averaged 26 points per game and scored 3,649 points in total. Woodard was a member of the United States’ women’s basketball team that won the gold medal at the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 1984. After her playing career, she became a financial consultant and later the head coach of the Winthrop Eagles women’s basketball team
