Julius Malema attended Mohlakaneng High School in Limpopo. He completed a two-year diploma in Youth Development at the University of South Africa (UNISA). He later pursued studies in Communications and African Studies at the same university. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2016, followed by a BA (Honours) in Philosophy in 2017.

Julius Malema has been affiliated with several organizations throughout his political career. He joined the Masupatsela group of the African National Congress (ANC) at the age of nine. He was also active in the Congress of South African Students organization, serving as province chairman in 1997 and then as president from 2001 to 2004. He served as the president of the ANC Youth League from 2008 to 2012. After his expulsion from the ANC, he founded the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in 2013 and has been serving as its leader.
