Juan García Salazar, born in 1944 in a small fishing village at the mouth of the Rio Santiago in Esmeraldas province, Ecuador, is an Ecuadorian historian, educator, and community activist[1][2]. He is dedicated to recovering and developing Ecuador’s Afro-descendant heritage[2]. García Salazar was born into a community of black people and faced challenges in his early life, including the death of his father when he was six years old[1].
