Jeff Capel III is an American college basketball coach and former player. He is currently the head coach of the University of Pittsburgh’s Panthers men’s basketball team. Capel played for Duke University from 1993 to 1997, where he was a standout guard and later served as an assistant coach under Mike Krzyzewski. He has also been the head coach at Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Oklahoma, leading both teams to NCAA Tournament appearances. Capel comes from a basketball family, with his father, Jeff Capel II, being a former college basketball head coach and his brother, Jason Capel, also having played and coached at the collegiate level. As a coach, Capel is known for his recruiting prowess and his ability to develop players. He has been recognized for his coaching achievements, including being named the ACC Coach of the Year in 2023 after leading Pitt to a successful season
