Gisèle Rabesahala was a Malagasy politician and independence activist. She was the first woman in Madagascar to be elected to a municipal council (1956) and to be appointed to a ministerial position in the government (1977). Rabesahala devoted her life to the fight for the emancipation of the Malagasy people and for the independence of Madagascar. She was a member of the AKFM, a political party that fought for the independence of Madagascar from French colonial rule. Rabesahala was also known for her commitment to human rights, democracy, and social justice[1][2].
