David Nelson Crosthwait Jr. was an African American mechanical and electrical engineer, inventor, and writer. He is most notable for developing heating systems for high-rise buildings and for his work on heat transfer, ventilation, and air conditioning. He held 39 US patents and 80 international patents pertaining to heating systems, vacuum pumps, refrigeration methods, and temperature regulating devices.
