Education

Bobby E. Wright completed his B.S. in Education at Chicago State University in 1966 and an M.A. in Counseling & Guidance two years later. He earned a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Chicago in 1972.

Career and Contributions

Bobby E. Wright was a [Pan-African] clinical psychologist, mental health administrator, and theorist. He was a truant officer for Chicago Public Schools in the 1960s and a member of the Association of Afro-American Educators and the Chicago Teachers Union. He was also the president-elect of the [Association of Black Psychologists] at the time of his death. Wright was known for his work in challenging racist hiring practices and for his contributions to the field of Black psychology.

Death

Bobby E. Wright passed away on April 6, 1982, at the age of 48.

Additional Information

Bobby E. Wright was a staunch atheist and publicly attacked theism and religious belief. [The Bobby E. Wright Comprehensive Mental Health Centre] in Chicago was renamed in his honor.
